Extra/Ordinary Cities is a dynamic
forum examining the relationship between art, politics and the built environment in Asia and
Australia. Traveling from Sydney’s eastern suburbs to the City's southwest, this day long event
centered at the Bach Dang Vietnamese Restaurant in Canley Vale/Cabramatta brings together leading
international artists, architects and writers for a series of presentations and discussion panels,
culminating with a reception at the
Concrete Culture
exhibition at the Ivan Dougherty Gallery/ Centre for Contemporary Art and Politics, UNSW.
Participants include: Ou Ning (Beijing/Shanghai/Guangzhou), Neville Mars (Beijing), Map
Office (Hong Kong), Ruangrupa: Ade Darmawan & Reza Afisina (Jakarta), Michael Rakowitz (New
York), Rene Gabri and Ayreen Anastas (New York), Richard Goodwin (Sydney), Alfredo & Isabel
Aquilizan, Artists (Philippines/Brisbane), Squat Space (Sydney), Shakthidharan (Sydney), Manray Hsu
(Taipei) and other Biennale of Sydney artists.
When: Monday, 23 June 2008, 9.20am – 5.45pm
Where: The bus leaves at 9.20 am from the Ivan Dougherty
Gallery and 9.30am from the Biennale of Sydney office at Woolloomooloo, and returns at 5.45pm.
Cost: The forum cover charge will be AUD $25.00, which
includes lunch, tea & coffee at the Bach Dang Restaurant.
Bookings are essential: There will be a limited number of
60 tickets on offer that will include a transfer by bus + additional on-board events.
