OPEN BITE brings together unique  prints created by seven prominent  Australian artists: Adam Cullen,  Elisabeth Cummings, Nicholas  Harding, Cherry Hood, Roger Law,  Euan McLeod and Chris O’Doherty aka  Reg Mombassa.

It shows how these  acclaimed painters have been  exploring printmaking, each with their  own approach and preferred  technique. Courtesy of Michael Kempson, Director  of Cicada Press, the exhibition  displays both the final works and the  printing plates to illustrate the diverse  printmaking processes, offering the  exclusive opportunity to discover  beautiful works mostly unknown to  the public.

Curated by College of Fine Arts Master of Art Administration students, OPEN  BITE focuses on an educational  dimension, as heralded by the title, that refers to the bite by the acid into the printing plate, which occurs during  the process. OPEN BITE complements the  celebrated exhibition originating from  the National Gallery of Australia, "Place  Made: Australian Print Workshop  1981-2002", on view at the Ivan  Dougherty Gallery from 20 May to 18  June this year.

Opening:  6 - 8pm Thursday, 19 May, 2005.

To be opened by Hendrick Kolenberg,  Senior Curator Australian Prints, Drawings, Watercolours, Art Gallery of  New South Wales, In the presence of the artists.
