Participate Australia is calling for expressions of interest from Sydney-based artists to enter an original artwork in the inaugural Participate Australia Art Prize.
In its ninth year, For Art’s Sake continues to showcase the creative expression of emerging artists of all abilities.
Entries are open to emerging and practicing artists of all abilities in Sydney aged 18 or older, who work in a range of mediums, including painting, print, edging, sculpture, photography, functional and sculptural ceramics and more. The theme for the art prize is ‘participation’.
There are three awards:
For Art’s Sake Art Prize and Participate Art Prize - Two prizes of $3,000 each, for the two most impressive artworks by practicing artists, living with or without disability, as awarded by the judging panel.
Collaborate Art Prize - One prize of $3,000 for the most outstanding artwork created in a collaboration between an emerging artist with disability and a practicing artist, as awarded by the judging panel. This category is reserved for participants of Participate Australia.
People's Choice Award - One prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the artwork with the most votes from visitors and guests of the exhibition.
The judging panel includes David Capra (UNSW Art & Design alum and 2015 commission artist for the MCA’s Jackson Bella Room), Prof Colin Rhodes (Former Dean of the Sydney College of the Arts, academic and author) and Wendy Sharpe (UNSW Art & Design alum and winner of the Sulman Prize, the Portia Geach Memorial Award and the Archibald Prize).
