Presented by the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) the annual Hatched: National Graduate Show showcases a curated selection of works by the best emerging talents across Australia. This year, recent UNSW Art & Design graduate Siân Davies (Bachelor of Fine Arts) is among the 30 emerging artists chosen for the prestigious exhibition.
Since 1992, the Hatched National Graduate Show has presented the work of over one thousand artists alongside that of their national peers in this unique showcase of emergent talent. Many of Australia’s most successful artistic careers have been launched this way.
Each year students are nominated by their University or school and the final selection is made by an industry panel. This year’s panel included artist Agatha Gothe-Snape; Annika Kristensen (Senior Curator, Australian Centre for Contemporary Art); Fang-Wei Chang (Senior Curator, Taipei Fine Arts Museum) and Eugenio Viola (Senior Curator, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts).
Working across painting, sculpture, installation, performance, sound and video, the 30 graduate artists will take over the PICA galleries, offering visitors an insight into the freshest ideas in Australian contemporary art.
Hatched is one of the most enduring and fundamental ways that PICA fulfils its mission of supporting innovative new art practices and providing artists with career nurturing opportunities. Hatched tests the pulse of the nation’s emerging arts scene while acting as an important platform for the next generation of Australian artists.
