Beyond the tick gate
Dir: Ian Howard 1981 (Australia)
24 mins Super 8-to-digital Colour
Beyond the tick Gate is a unique documentation project by Professor Ian Howard; artist and previous Dean at UNSW Art & Design (1998 – 2013). Digitised from Super 8 film and Porto-Pak video, the 24-minute film features Abramović and Ulay’s visit to Australia during the winter of 1981, and their interaction with UNSW College of Fine Arts students at an intensive bush retreat workshop. Ten students, first year to post-grad, were chosen to participate in the workshop, which took place 700 kilometres north of Sydney in the tiny town of Whiporie. Anticipating that this workshop would be significant, Ian and his partner Lucienne recorded the proceedings, resulting in hundreds of feet of Super 8 film, video and audio tape documentation. The screening of the rarely-seen work is exclusive to Kaldor Public Art Projects’ Making art public movie marathon series.
Bob Wilson’s life & death of Marina Abramović
Dir: Giada Colagrande 2012 (Italy)
57 mins Digital Colour
Bob Wilson’s life & death of Marina Abramović follows the coming together of director Robert Wilson, performance artist Marina Abramović, singer and composer Antony Hegarty and performer Willem Dafoe, to create an experimental ‘quasi opera’ based on Abramović's biography. Through rehearsal footage and interviews with the artists, we gain insight into their unique collaboration and the excitement and challenges of making an experimental theatre work.
