Performance x 4A at Art Central Hong Kong
- When 20 Mar - 25 Mar 2017
9 Lung Wo Rd, Central, Hong Kong
Sydney’s dynamic 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art (4A) focuses on the development of relationships and dialogues between Australia and the wider Asian region. With the explicit goal of promoting creative practices that explore diverse histories, stories, and form multiple perspectives, 4A has become a landmark organisation celebrating Australia’s diverse cultural heritage in a multipolar political landscape.
In late March, 4A is hosting Performance x 4A at Art Centre in Hong Kong. Led by UNSW Art & Design graduate and 4A Gallery Director, Mikala Tai, this six-day-long event is a showcase of performance art challenging and questioning conventional thought within the context of a globalised world.
Alongside the performance program, featuring the work of Enoch Cheng (Hong Kong), Uji Handoko Eko Saputro aka Hahan (Indonesia), Tobias Gutmann (Switzerland), Amrita Hepi (Bundulung, Ngapuhi, Australia), and Anida Yoeu Ali (Cambodia, US), 100 galleries will open their doors as Hong Kong hands itself over to a celebration of diversity in culture and artistic expression.
A central part of the program will be a panel discussion hosted by Mikala Tai titled Performance Art: From Politics to the Poetics, which A4 is presenting in partnership with the Asia Society. On Saturday 25 March, 3pm – 4pm, Tai will facilitate an open dialogue with the artists participating in the performance program exploring some of the social, political, and economic influences that shape and feed their practices.
